Nayantara Fonseka, better known as Taru, is a charismatic and illustrious figure in the Sri Lankan design world. The consummate artist, her love of design began with fashion in her youth and has encompassed all things beautiful, from bespoke clothing to restoration of antique furniture, from painting to architecture and gourmet cuisine.
Taru is also recognised widely for her pioneering work in creating and managing the
Taru Villas boutique hotels in the early 2000s in the south of Sri Lanka , introducing the concept of small, highly-individual, deluxe hotels to the island's tourism industry. For these endeavours she received international acclaim for her work from purveyors of style such as the LUXE guides, Conde-Nast UK, Robb Report and Wallpaper* magazines.
2002 saw the consolidation of her varied talents and the formal establishment of her company Taru i.e., marrying her artistic eye for "Interior" design with her expertise in wedding & "Event" management and bringing them under one design umbrella. Classic style, clean lines, understated elegance, precision : Taru's design hallmarks reflect her depth of experience and justify the accolades and admiration she has received from a long list of loyal clients, both here and abroad.
Always given leadership and inspiration by Taru herself, the Taru i.e. team is noted for their meticulous attention to detail, whether in the design and decor of a home or commercial space, or the coordinated and choreographed execution of a wedding or other special event. From simple product launches to extravagant, opulent weddings, the versatility, flair and dedication of the Taru i.e. Team, buttressed by their professional affiliations to contractors and craftsmen, provide a platform to deliver a client's vision to the highest standards.
